๐ The short version: BiteSleuth does not sell your data, does not show you ads, and only collects what is necessary to make the app work. Your food and nutrition data is yours.
1. Who We Are
BiteSleuth is operated by Vanessa Nix, Trading as BiteSleuth, based in North Carolina, United States. If you have any questions about this privacy policy, you can contact us at bitesleuth@gmail.com.
2. What Data We Collect
We collect only what is necessary to provide the BiteSleuth service:
- Account information: Your email address when you create an account
- Meal logs: The food and nutrition data you enter into the app
- App preferences: Your nutrition goals and settings
- Payment information: Processed securely by Stripe โ we never see or store your full card details
We do not collect your location, contacts, device identifiers, or any data unrelated to the app's core function.
3. How We Use Your Data
Your data is used exclusively to provide and improve the BiteSleuth service:
- To log and display your meals and nutrition information
- To sync your data across your devices (cloud sync feature)
- To process subscription payments via Stripe
- To respond to your support requests
We do not use your data for advertising, marketing profiling, or any purpose beyond making BiteSleuth work for you.
4. Who We Share Your Data With
We do not sell your data to anyone, ever. We share limited data only with the following trusted service providers who help us operate the app:
- Supabase โ secure cloud database and authentication provider
- Stripe โ payment processing (they handle your card details, we never see them)
- OpenAI โ powers the AI nutrition analysis features; meal descriptions are sent to OpenAI to generate nutrition estimates
- Netlify โ hosts the app and its backend functions
Each of these providers has their own privacy policy and security practices. We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or any third parties for commercial purposes.
5. AI Features and Your Data
When you use BiteSleuth's AI-powered features (meal analysis, photo logging, nutrition chat), the text or image you submit is sent to OpenAI's API to generate a response. OpenAI processes this data according to their privacy policy. We do not store the content of your AI queries beyond what is necessary to display results in the app.
6. Data Security
All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS. Your account data is stored securely in Supabase, which uses industry-standard encryption and security practices. We implement Row Level Security on our database, meaning your data can only be accessed by you when you are signed in.
7. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all of your personal data including meal logs, preferences, and account information will be permanently deleted from our systems. You can delete your account at any time from the Account section of the app.
